Phil Murray’s chosen tagline says it all – songs with a heartbeat. Music has always affected Phil emotionally and he has always been attracted to songs that touch the heart. No surprise then that his own songs should follow this same course. A singer-songwriter for much of his life, Phil had long dreamed of releasing a professional album; however, until recently, career and family responsibilities had made this impossible. But late in 2009, Phil left his long-time job to concentrate on music and proceeded to record his debut original album. Leaving nothing to chance, Phil engaged a highly credentialed professional Producer to ensure his album achieved high standards of excellence. Highly experienced professional musicians were engaged including a 21-piece orchestral string section. Two years on, the result is Phil’s debut commercial album, Never Too Late – the culmination of a long journey that has lasted most of his life. The songs reflect what Phil values most from that journey – the people who mean most to him: his forebears, parents, wife, children, extended family and wider community of friends and acquaintances. All of these songs are love songs as they are all about close relationships. Some are about romantic love… others about the love of family… and yet others about supportive love for people experiencing personal loss or other crisis (see individual song notes below). All are positive songs expressing gratitude, encouragement and hope through engaging stories that spring from the artist's real life experiences. The songs are very personal, exposing some of the inner aspects of Phil’s life to wider scrutiny. Phil's notes on individual songs: You're My Reason - I once met a young woman whose beautiful welcoming smile masked an incredible personal tragedy. My heart goes out to people who carry such huge burdens. She Gave Me Love - Inspired by the generosity of the women in my life and the warm hospitality of my Scottish cousins, I pay tribute here to all the women who have sacrificed so much in their struggle for equality, yet remain so caring of others. Someone Out There - Understandably, abusive relationships shatter confidence....yet there will be someone who will love and respect you for who you are. How You Feel Tonight - Following loss of any kind, a silver lining can seem elusive - but faith and the love of those closest to us will inspire us with hope and usher in a new beginning. Never Too Late - The search for true love is universal but its capture proves elusive for many. Even if you have to wait to kindle or rekindle the flame, it's worth it! Isles of Green - No matter how far we travel or how much time passes, our ancestral roots remain part of who we are. This song was inspired by a visit to Ireland, Scotland and England - the lands of my forebears whose sacrifices gave me a life better than their own. My Wish For You - Despite its constant demands and the inevitable pain of letting go, parenthood is amazingly fulfilling. Our lives have been blessed by our three wonderful children.
