Helvis专辑介绍：by Alex HendersonIn the late '70s, metal and punk audiences usually didn't get along; long hair was hard to find at punk shows, and mohawks were unfashionable at Blue Öyster Cult and Rainbow concerts. But punk and metal formed a very close alliance in the '80s, and the metal/punk combination has worked remarkably well in everything from thrash, grunge, rap-metal/rapcore, metalcore, and alternative metal to death metal, black metal, and grindcore. In fact, it's impossible to adequately discuss the alternative metal of Reverence the Sacrifice without some mention of punk's impact on Helvis, whose members have belonged to other British bands such as Iron Monkey and Pitchshifter. Reverence the Sacrifice (which was recorded in late 2001) offers a brutally vicious metal/punk assault, and just about every headbanger who has influenced Helvis -- with the exception of Black Sabbath -- owes something to punk. Motörhead and Venom (two of the first metal bands to be influenced by punk's high-speed aggression) are influences, as are Slayer, Napalm Death, and Sepultura -- and at times, there are hints of Black Flag (one of the most exciting Los Angeles punk bands of the early '80s). Lead singer Bloody Kev fluctuates between two vocal styles: a demonic, larynx-ripping growl in the death metal/black metal/grindcore vein (although Reverence the Sacrifice isn't death metal per se), and an angry, sneering, punky approach that's somewhere between Henry Rollins and Sex Pistols-era John Lydon. Either way, he's nasty, harsh, unforgiving, and totally in your face. Unfortunately, Kev's more demonic-sounding vocals occasionally render the lyrics hard to understand, but because the grooves are so infectious and the band's overall sound is so attractive, one can easily forgive the CD's imperfections. All things considered, Reverence the Sacrifice is among the more memorable and appealing alternative metal discs to come out of Great Britain in 2003.
