简介
Lo-Res celebrates the talents and distinctive sounds of 6 of Melbourne's most prolific musicians, uniting the ensemble through a rich tapestry of sophisticated harmonies and driving rhythms. Whilst featuring the music of Belinda Woods, Lo-Res embraces the diverse musical interests and styles of each member of the ensemble, melding together the genres of Jazz, New Music, Rock, Folk and Minimalism to create a sound that is unique and versatile. The strength of the ensemble lies in a compositional and structural foundation that provides unity, direction and a creative springboard for individual expression. ‘Voyeur’ is the inaugural album of Melbourne based outfit Lo-Res, and the second release by Belinda Woods. Tracks on the album, written over a 17 year period, showcase the strength and individuality of Belinda’s compositional voice. Belinda’s music is “lyrical, reflective, and impulsive” and has often been described as filmic. You will find that the album ‘Voyeur’ provides a swathe of scenes and scenarios to inspire and captivate, drawing listeners into a world of sonically inspired visions – an elaborate soundtrack of luscious harmonies and dirty grooves, beautiful melodies and gritty improvisations. Belinda Woods ~ Concert and Alto Flutes / Alto Sax / Compositions, Gemma Horbury ~ Trumpet, Tim Pledger ~ Alto and Tenor Sax / Bass Clarinet, Diego Villalta ~ Guitar, Ali Watts ~ Bass, Daniel Brates ~ Drums, Chris Lewis ~ Percussion Composer/Flautist Belinda Woods is emersed in the Melbourne Improvised music scene. Crowned as an unsung hero by Australian composer Kate Neal, Belinda performs regularly with ensembles such as Bohjass, Lo-Res, metremaid, BOLT, and the Sunwrae Ensemble. A current PhD candidate at the VCA and finalist in the 2011 APRA Professional Development Awards, Belinda explores the use of texture and contour within her compositions and improvisations to paint scenes of rich complexity, focusing on the acoustic nature of her instrument. Belinda also extends her abilities towards the composed music of the 20th and 21st centuries, the structure and innovation of which she draws into her own improvising and composition.
