Haar, are brothers Gary and Ian Smith, from Edinburgh, Scotland; their album East Coast Chill embraces the digital chillout genre and combines great guitar instrumentals with well crafted and balanced compositions. The brothers' musical journey has seen them release albums in the new folk singer-songwriter mode with their acclaimed duo Poachers Too, a detour into the Americana country field with the band East Coast Outfit and then a branch out into the new age genre with Bran's Cauldron. Haar is the next logical step on this quest for musical expression and combines the musical lyricism of Poachers Too with the ambient relaxation of Bran's Cauldron to produce an instrumental album of electric guitar music with a hypnotic ambient backing band. Ian Smith is a guitar player and singer who graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and pursued a career in music education and performing as a classical guitarist until teaming up with younger brother Gary to branch out into other styles and genres. In Edinburgh, on the hottest of days, a mist develops over the North Sea and gently sweeps inland enveloping the city and its people in a cool chill, this is called haar.
