Since its inception, Coke Studio remains a Space that witnesses the subtle connections of cultures and peoples through Music. This has happened in a path Coke Studio has chosen to carve for itself – a journey wherein those on the ride find themselves questioning their roots, witnessing the mysterious attributes of Eastern tonality in harmony with Western structures, experiencing the wealth of knowledge that traditionalists have spent eons preserving and sharing this in the light of today’s world. This Season, Coke Studio takes us through a doorway to the rest of the world. In the flow, we inched towards showing others beyond our borders a bit of what we have been endowed with through our heritage and waited for a response from the other side. And in this process of Sharing, we were welcomed to connect our music with countries such as Serbia, Italy and Morocco. Alongside this, as always, in the pursuit of tracing our own origins and understanding who we are, influences from countries such as Nepal, Turkey and Bangladesh became indicators of the subtle intricacies of the way music has traveled to us today. In our travels, we also come to recognise that while many influences may have traveled to us to contribute to what we are today, much of our own influence has also traveled outwards and assimilated into other cultures. This demonstrates that while there is a window for others to peer in, we have also ventured out and taken a part of this region with us to share elsewhere. This next step in the journey of Coke Studio is yet another step in the same direction of sharing and appreciating diverse cultures for what they offer to each other. This Season, we also witness the act of having musicians from different backgrounds, nationalities and ethnicities contribute their parts to the music in different physical locations, at different times which culminate into the overall piece. In witnessing this, we begin to understand that while the structures of music remain unique, there is a thread that underlies what we see on the surface demonstrating that within the vast Diversity we find Similarity. In this Chapter of the Coke Studio, we believe that the journey has led us to see how Sound demonstrates the blend of Eastern and Western musical elements in an experiment that further unfolds the universal harmony of music. The process has been one in which we have attempted to uncover the subtleties of elements that connect in terms of technical execution. Given the number of countries visited, the music captured and brought back to create something new – the effort has been in representing a Sound medium in Visual form. In the process of it all, we have taken a moment to look at ourselves through the eyes of the rest of the world – an experience that has been insightful for both sides of the window. In attempting to connect across time and distance, we wish to share the findings of this experiment. In this Spirit, the Coca Cola Company remains a patron of global human connect. For believing in not only the project that is Coke Studio but for working towards a direction that frees creativity, expression and invites all forms of diversity while appreciating the uniqueness of each contributing part is something that we thank the Coca Cola Company for. It is due to this patronage that we endeavor to work further in exploring and sharing the universal human story. While on this journey that Coke Studio leads us on, we hope to stay true to the values that encapsulate the fundamentals set in its foundation. And we hope that in this process, what does come of this is beneficial to those who hear it.
