Heart of the City In this riveting song collection, balaphones and sousu language are blended in a novel exchange with electric guitar and keyboards. We hear English lyrics, bass, djembe, percussion, the songs are full of uplifting moods, humor and introspective landscapes. There is an intense sound experience where ancient rhythms meet the new. The journey is brilliant and joyous, different yet so familiar. The music reflects the synergies as cultures collide and ultimately blend in the modern world. Monc and Karamba met in 2006 while working with producer Aaron Gross and Aquaria Sessions on independent projects. Their instant chemistry initiated a two week intense collaborative recording session that produced a unique global sound ripe with raging rhythms and international vocals. What came of their collaboration was the album Heart of the City -- music that brings together the rhythms and stories of Guinea with the eccentric and at times psychedelic sounds of the London Underground. Karamba Dioubate, multi percussionist and singer from Guinea, West Africa, together with Monc, an eclectic musician and singer song writer from the U.K. underground music Join Forces/Unique talents at Aquaria Studios. Joined by Karamba's brother Thierno Dioubate, a master balaphon player, and rapper CRA (3 Minutes), as well as guest appearances by trumpet player Ron Blake, saxophonist Karl Hunter and additional percussion by Monkyranch. The recordings took place at Aquaria Studios 2006-2007, in legendary Laurel Canyon, California.
