Laura is a Chicago-based children's musician and award-winning producer with an ear for a catchy melody. Armed with her acoustic guitar, she has written and recorded three albums for the folk-pop listener (solo and with Sweet Hello), and her newest CD called "KIDS IN THE CITY" released in May 2009. She teamed up again with award-winning producer Rich Rankin (Wiggleworms Love You, ©2005) on this recording. Doherty received the prestigious CAAP cultural arts grant awarded by the City of Chicago, to help fund this CD. "Kids in the City" is a collection of original songs for the urban kid. Doherty writes about skyscrapers, the zoo, the farmer's market and more, and even writes about city sites unique to Chicago, with her song about the El Train and a Chicago-style Hot Dog. "KIds in the City" has been receiving rave reviews from the press, including being rated on of the top 10 children's CD's of 2009 by Time Out NY Kids.
