简介
It was Sunday Morning in the cascades. I was on an Amtrak drinking coffee as the train pushed through the early morning mist. We would soon be traveling along Puget Sound on our way into Seattle. I was reading cleveland.com on my tablet when I saw an article that featured a friend of mine who had lived down the hall from me. My neighbor is a good man. He attends city council and school board meetings. He works hard to protect the community from foolish and corrupt government negligence. He regularly helps seniors and disabled people with basic needs like grocery shopping. He rarely turns down those who benefit from his assistance. He sticks up for what he believes is right. But the article was not about a good citizen. It was about a police raid on his home. They had allegedly seized a number of plants and cultivation tools. For that he faces years in prison on felony charges. A good member of our community will likely lose his freedom. And while I understand that his alleged activities came with great risk and consequence, I was also aware that I was reading this information in a state whose voters had already made the decision to abandon these laws. But he is not in a state with compassionate laws. In Ohio, he could be sent to prison. In Ohio he may become another statistic. His story is like millions of others across the country. I live with a Spinal Cord Injury. It has been suggested to me from a variety of sources that medical marijuana could aid in relieving my pain from neuropathy. The legal alternatives at home come with dangerous side effects that I refuse to introduce to my life. In Washington these alternatives would be available to me. I questioned my desire to come home. Why would anyone return to a state of persecution rather to stay where they could make responsible decisions regarding their own health? I choose family first. For that, I face life without safe legal pain relief. My former neighbor faces the possibility of spending the remainder of his days in a prison. During my 24 hours in Washington, the need to end prohibition became as clear as it has ever been to me. This record is the effort of many musicians from across our state with a variety of different beliefs and musical styles. Together we share the desire to end the criminalization of marijuana. We recognize the benefits of this plant, and the injustices that the war on drugs has brought into our world. We have come together to help raise funds and awareness to the cause of ending marijuana prohibition in the state of Ohio. This record is dedicated to the life of John Hartman who fought for this cause long before it's current widespread acceptance. Today we stand ready to make John's dream a reality. Today we are ready to treat humans with dignity and respect. -Charlie Mosbrook
