After a first eponymous album released in 2008 and a second one, Antonio2, two years later, David Brunet is back. Antonio3, this new instrumental episode contains, once again, some very visual compositions. It is also simpler and rocks harder than previous projects. The producer-composer, who became known through his work alongside Daniel Boucher, Patrice Michaud, Coeur de Pirate and many others, remained faithful to his team. Some of Montreal's best sidemen bring alive the compositions of David Brunet: twenty musicians including Simon Blouin (drums), François Richard (keyboards), Jipé Dalpé (trumpet), Benoit Paradis (trombone) and Pascal Per Veillette (harmonica). Do not look for Italian waltzes or circus atmosphere. The third version of Antonio stands out for its raw and energetic sound: grooves are more constant, themes and arrangements more straightforward. A greater place was made to the musicians, who had the opportunity to take improvised solos, which is a new addition to the range of Antonio. In 2012, David Brunet received a Félix for record producer of the year for the album Le Triangle des Bermudes by Patrice Michaud. His instrumental project has also received its share of praise: Both Antonio and Antonio2 were warmly welcomed by critics and ADISQ, as evidenced by the three nominations received in 2008 and 2010. There was also a memorable concert at the Montreal Jazz Festival (2010), where the Astral hosted Antonio with twenty-seven (27!) musicians on stage!
