"What's Old Is New" Randy Weaver, Denis DiBlasio and Andy Lalasis have remained friends since they graduated Pennsauken High School back in 1972. Sharing an everlasting bond held together by the love of music & friendship, they had each gone their own separate ways in life - until recently that is... Denis and Andy reunited at the request of Randy who had acquired a 1" tape machine for his studio and requested them to test it out by coming over to his studio and playing while he recorded them. Denis & Andy agreed and brought along Bob Shomo on drums to try an idea Denis had been thinking about trying out for a long time. His idea was to have a trio with no piano or guitar - just bass, drums, bari sax & flute. He had also been toying with the idea of doing very old songs from the 20's but changing up the feel on them to make them sound fresh again. You should know there was absolutely no pre - preparation for this session, no rehearsals and no talk of how to start and end the songs...pure spontaneous creativity with no pre-conceived notions. It was decided on the spot what the groove would be and who would solo and when - that's it! Upon playback of the tracks the guys were so amazed by what they heard they immediately decided to press up copies of the music for everyone else to hear as well. The result is truly amazing and has far exceeded everyone's expectations. You will instantly recognize that this music has literally taken on a life of it's own and the sonic quality is "audiophile", hence the title "What's Old Is New". It aptly describes both musically & personally what transpired on that historic day. Andy Lalasis
