简介

I’m a Country singer/songwriter from Bakersfield, California. I grew up in Longmont, Colorado and Casper, Wyoming. After my grandmother passed away when I was around seven, we inherited her piano. My parents got me lessons, and I have played ever since. Growing up, I always loved performing in various school, church, and community groups. Along the way, I also learned to play saxophone, brass, and percussion, and a little guitar. While in junior college in Casper, I was part of a Country band that played local clubs. After I graduated, I was planning to finish college in Los Angeles. The band, however, was having a lot of local success. I postponed my plans, and the band toured playing clubs in Nebraska, New Mexico, and Idaho. The tour was short lived, however, and 5 months later we were back in Casper. I chose to go back to my original plans and enrolled at California State University at Dominguez Hills in Los Angeles. Five months after enrolling, I picked up an internship at Motown records working in the A&R department. I worked for free for about a year and a half, and then got hired. While my job was primarily doing paperwork and accounting, I got to meet the Temptations, Stevie Wonder, the Pointer Sisters, Boyz II Men, and a lot of other artists that came and went. During this time I finished my bachelor’s degree in music at Cal State. Also, while at Cal State, I met the woman who was to become my wife, and still is today. As glamorous as working for Motown might sound, it was a job like any other, and had little chance of becoming a long-term career. Also, despite having coveted access to the music industry’s movers and shakers, I honestly could not write songs that were worth using. After three years of working there, I chose to go into teaching. While I still dabbled in music, much of the motivation that had driven me up to that point had played itself out. Having a loving wife, and a few years later, two wonderful sons, gave me much more fulfillment than any audience could. Years later, however, the itch to write, record, and perform began to come back. During my Motown years, I was trying to write rock and pop, with little success. This time however, the songs that were coming to me were Country. I felt I had found my niche – for two reasons. First, I realized and embraced that I grew up country. Second, when I was 21, I had very little life experience from which to draw. Having been married, had kids, along with years of successes and setbacks gave me a much deeper well to draw from. I was initially going to make “Not Enough Livin” the album’s title track. It was my first song worth recording, and exemplifies the importance of life experience in writing. However, the response I got from “A Face For Radio” was too good not to capitalize on. It became the title track, and inspired some humorous album art. My son’s guitar teacher, Bunky Spurling, added the icing on the cake with his amazing guitar tracks. Also, I decided that I would only write songs that were in line with my faith and family values. I figure there’s enough drinkin’ and cheatin’ songs out there already. Don’t get me wrong – I’m a sinner like everyone else, saved only by the grace of God and the blood of Jesus. If you’ve read this far, I thank you, and I hope you enjoy my songs!
