Since the launch of his new collection in 2013, 'Plaything of the Great God Kafka', poet Roger Hudson has been involved in an ongoing collaboration with Drogheda composer, Breifne Holohan. In a series of recent live performances around the country, Hudson has recited his poems to a backdrop of evocative soundscapes improvised by Holohan on electric guitar. In an interaction between poet and musician, words flow and music weaves to create one united whole. 'San Francisco Dreaming' explores concepts of time and space, evoking expressions and sounds of fireworks, thunder and lightning, the sounds of nature and machine, the impact of jetlag, dream, nightmare, fantasy and fiction. Electric guitar, electronic effects and human voice interweave, supplemented by the ethereal acoustic of Highlanes Gallery in Drogheda, Co. Louth, to create a multi-layered magic both sensual and fantastical. Since coming to Drogheda 12 years ago, Roger has published three poetry collections and performed his poems widely in venues and festivals in Dublin and around the country, solo, with the Word Jungle group and with musicians. He will again host The Word session in the Drogheda Arts Festival in April. Drogheda native Breifne is a musican/composer who is rapidly making his mark on the music scene. His music crosses a vast range of genres, from modern classical, acoustic guitar and minimalist music to traditional Irish, ambient and electroacoustic styles. He released his solo CD Eastern Passages in 2015.
