简介
Frequently, simple is best. In an age when complexity and fine tuning can be watch words, a return to basics can certainly be refreshing. This third release from Steve Spurgin on Blue Night Records, “Solo Flight”, proves that one voice and one guitar performing a collection of impressive songs can be just what the doctor ordered. There are no gimmicks here. Mr. Spurgin has distilled this entire project back to his pure folk beginnings, recording each track live in the studio without the addition of auto-tune or pitch correct; head phones were not even used. Imagine a private concert just for you in a quiet setting, and you have the idea. With no desire to scale back his career or consider resting on his laurels, Steve Spurgin continues to add to his legacy. His previous recordings have featured mostly, if not all, original material. Of the fourteen tracks on this CD, four are Spurgin originals. The remaining ten songs are favorites from other writers whom he admires greatly. Some are tunes he has performed for years and had not considered recording until now. “Darcy Farrow” by Steve Gillette and Tom Campbell, along with “A Long Time Back” by Travis Edmondson are prime examples. However, one of the new Spurgin compositions, “The Light’s Still on at Trixie’s”, written expressly for this recording, is without question one of the best songs ever to come from his pen. We at Blue Night Records can say with absolute confidence that “Solo Flight” will prove to be an enduring favorite with Steve Spurgin fans, old and new.
