简介

"Angela, David & the band, wring out a tune so thoroughly, without rushing, that they leave nothing but rags hangin' on the line." Steve Williams- Jazz Director/Host Retired - KUER FM90.1, Salt Lake City, Utah, Currently- Host of - Jazz Time With Steve Williams- KCPW FM 88.3 - 105.5 FM, Salt Lake City, Utah Angela's singing is characterized by the qualities of honest expression, solid swinging and an emphasis on the blues. With a clear, steady tone and a penchant for improvisation, she communicates a song's lyric "as if she were speaking to you directly, over cocktails or supper." (David R. Halliday, independent music critic and former jazz radio DJ) One night in late 2015 while Angela Bingham was visiting Salt Lake City, her old friend and musical partner, the saxophonist David Halliday said to her, "Hey, we should record an album while you're in town!" The next day, they booked the studio, gathered the band, and made plans for "The Night We Called it a Day." Recorded in one session in August 2015, this seasoned group of musicians played it down the way only good friends and lifelong musical partners can. As they weaved through ballads and blues and a few more jaunty numbers, the best 10 tracks were picked - and the result is a truly swinging, blues & ballads album of the highest caliber. Angela and David have been performing together since 2002, and this is their first album together! The trio is made up of Salt Lake City heavyweights Denson Angulo on Bass, Jesse Quebbeman-Turley on drums and the always virtuosic Kenji Aihara on guitar. Angela Bingham was born in the San Francisco Bay Area, and has had a life of music. Singing was always a part of the family, and harmony was paramount. She began formal music training with piano lessons at age 5, and sang in choirs and performing groups all through elementary and high school. Jazz pulled her in at an early age, eventually leading to more formal jazz voice study at DeAnza College in Cupertino, California. The rest, she learned on the bandstand. Angela began focusing professionally on jazz singing while living in Salt Lake City in 2001. Angela relocated to New York City in 2005, where she successfully held down a monthly residency for four years at the now (sadly defunct) Total Wine Bar, garnering an extremely loyal fan base. During this time, she began performing all around the city, working with many of New York's most heavyweight jazz musicians. She also held down a steady performance schedule at New York's famed Bar Next Door, a coveted NYC jazz venue. Angela now calls North Carolina home and can be found playing throughout the Triangle region and booking dates nationally. California native David Halliday studied with Grammy-winning jazz sax legend, Joe Henderson as a teen. He holds a BM in Saxophone Performance with an Emphasis in Jazz Studies from BYU and an MM in Jazz Performance and Composition from the University of Utah. Halliday’s musical travels have taken him through 45 states and 8 European countries. He has appeared on BET, the WB show Everwood, KBYUTV, Fox 13, and Josh Groban’s Awake Live DVD and has been heard on Touched By An Angel, ABC’s NBA theme, CBS, ESPN, HBO, Showtime, NFL Network, Speed TV, and many more. He attended Loyola in New Orleans, where he played in legendary funk band, Galactic. His live performance credits include Dizzy Gillespie, Josh Groban, Ben Folds, The Temptations, the Four Tops, Brian Bromberg, the Utah Symphony, and many more. Halliday serves as Associate Adjunct Professor of Saxophone at the University of Utah, private saxophone instructor, Survey and Jazz professor, and director of the Westminster College Jazz Ensemble.
