I wanted to create music that had a very distinctive vintage sound (live band; no sequencing, Fender Rhodes, B3 organ, Neve mixing boards, etc) with all the influences I've been saturated with over the years". "At the same time, I wanted a modern day sense of groove and grit that only a cat coming up in the big city could present. Hip hop is a very real part of my life and, while this is definitely not a "hip hop" record, its presence is palpable". Rolfe's backing band, Slick Jackson (teddycrockett: guitar, Mike Griot: bass, and Eric Brown: drums, percussion and background vocals), is a HUGE part of this records undeniably funky, yet effortless feel.
