Kjell-Inge Stevensson (1950-2010) Clarinet Kjell-Inge Stevensson studied at the Royal College of Music and continued his education abroad with Prof. Walter Boeykens and Prof. Guy Deplus. He also attended Prof. Hans Deinzer`s course for new music in Darmstadt. In 1970 he was appointed as principal clarinet of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Stockholm at the age of twenty. Later he also was a Professor of clarinet at the Royal College of Music. He held both positions untill his death in February 2010. He frequently gave master classes in Sweden and abroad. Kjell-Inge Stevensson is the only Scandinavian clarinetist featured in Pamela Weston`s anthology ”Clarinet Virtuosi of Today”. He was beside Stefan Harg the Artistic Director of the ICA`s Clarinetfest 2002 in Stockholm. Kjell-Inge was one of the pioneers of modern clarinet repertoire and performed and collaborated with many of today`s outstanding composers. His recording and interpretation of the Carl Nielsen: Clarinet concerto together with Herbert Blomstedt and the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1975 of label EMI, is considered, by many highly rated clarinetist`s of today, to be the most outstanding interpretation of this piece of music.
