简介

Eleonor Bindman was born in Riga, Latvia, where she became a music student at the age of five. After her family immigrated to the United States, she attended the High School of Performing Arts, earned a B.A. in music from New York University, and continued to study piano at the Elaine Kaufman Cultural Center, where she was the first recipient of the Barbara Holly Goldin Memorial Scholarship. Her teachers included Rita Kroner, Lev Natochenny, Richard Contiguglia and Vladimir Feltsman, under whose guidance she completed her M.A. in piano pedagogy at SUNY, New Paltz. Ms. Bindman made her critically acclaimed New York recital debut at Merkin Hall in 1991. Alan Kozinn of The New York Times described her performance as “lively, clear textured and urbane, displaying an impressive clarity of purpose and a full grasp of the music’s spirit.” She has since been an active soloist and chamber musician, performing a varied repertoire throughout the U.S. and abroad. Ms. Bindman performed in recitals at Carnegie Hall, The 92 Street Y, Merkin Hall, Alice Tully Hall. Her solo appearances with orchestras include engagements with the National Music Week Orchestra, the Staten Island Symphony, the Hudson valley Philharmonic, the New York Youth Symphony, and The Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra of Moscow, Russia. She has participated in various music festivals, including Music in the Mountains 1997, which led to her live radio debut on WAMC, Albany. Eleonor Bindman is a prizewinner of the New Orleans, Ferrucio Busoni and Jose Iturbi international piano competitions. She has received awards from the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts and the American Musical Scholarship Association and recorded 3 CDs. Ms. Bindman is also the author of a piano transcription of Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain and a set of original pieces for children entitled An American Calendar, both published by Carl Fischer, Inc. Included in Ms. Bindman’s debut recording, Three Works by Modeste Mussorgsky, are his famous masterpiece “Pictures at an Exhibition,” Ms. Bindman’s piano transcription of his orchestral tone poem “A Night on Bald Mountain” and the composer’s own piano arrangement of a lesser-known orchestral sketch, “Intermezzo in Classical Style.” This recording reflects Ms. Bindman’s passion for Mussorgsky’s music as well as her interest in the piano’s capability to assume the guise of a full symphony orchestra, as all three pieces exist in both instrumentations. The artist’s own piano rendition of “A Night on Bald Mountain” is a faithful version of the original. It is published by Carl Fischer, Inc.
