We are Shotgun Politics, a local band featuring Jimmy Gunn, Timmy Gunn, Freddy Gunn and Kevin Gunn. Our mission: to support the local indie scene while singing songs about how you don’t need to be a millionaire to lead a rich life. Coming from headbanging backgrounds in HK, the US, Singapore and Sweden, we quickly found ourselves moving towards a happier, life-rejoicing sound and it is in this genre we have continued. We call it “Party Rock”. At the same time, we believe it is important to put out a message about a different way to lead your life. Hong Kong, with its tradition of finance and banking tends to veer towards work, work, work combined with commercially approved relaxation (shopping, anyone?). Although any way is a good way, we like to talk and sing about the less costly, more creative, ways you can express yourself – being in a band, writing haiku, chasing girl/boys or burning down golf carts in Discovery Bay. Shotguuuun! We also firmly believe in the importance of supporting the local scene, and we try to do this in a number of ways: FUBU/DIY, always buying local CDs, writing about bands in local magazines, organizing low-cost gigs under our ka-POW banner, recording our material ourselves or with friends, and bringing groups together with our “Shotgun Double Up” policy. Come out and see us - performing or hanging in the bar - and we hope to put some rebel spirit in your loins! That... is a promise.
