In 1980 I started a country band named “Jailbird” (after a Kurt Vonnegut book) together with singer and guitar player Cora Philippi. The first two years we performed mostly in the Netherlands and did a tour in Switzerland. Then Cora and I both moved to Curacao, my native country, and continued performing country music on the island as a duo. We both wrote a lot of songs during those years. In 1985 I went back to the Netherlands and started playing and recording a variety of music styles with different bands, but I haven’t forgotten those songs we wrote back in the eighties, hence this album. So most of the material on Caught In Time was written between 1980 and 1985, except for “Josey Kettle”, a song about my favorite columnist at a local newspaper in Eindhoven, where I live, which I wrote in 2006. And of course “Sail Away”, a Neil Young classic we used to play during all our live performances with Jailbird. While the songs were revised and partly rewritten, we did our best to capture the sound and spirit of the original work.
