British born artist Kala BLVCKBIRD Elliott, is a singer songwriter, whose style is a mix of pop, folk, rock and hip-hop, blues beats and rhythms. Born to Jamaican (father) and St Lucian (mother) parents; BLVCKBIRD (whose name is a tribute to the Beatles song about Martin Luther King); would as a little girl, fall asleep to the mournful sounds of roots reggae music being played downstairs in her parents nightclub. Her unique childhood exposed her to some of the biggest reggae artist, and influential songs in the world, both of which played a huge role in helping to shape her expansive musical tastes and style. In her teens and early twenties, she taught herself guitar, started writing poems and spoken word pieces and lost herself in old school Hip Hop, She eventually grabbed a feature with Mark Morrison for Warner’s and wrote a few pop numbers for other signed artists. After a break from the ‘politics’ of the music industry BLVCKBIRD has now returned to focus on developing her own unique style. Her upcoming EP; to be released Autumn 2017, boasts a collection of amazing songs, sung from the heart, in a way that only she can sing them.
