Murty is a multi instrumentalist singer-songwriter with over 25 years experience in the music industry. Over the years Murty has travelled extensively with many touring Groups but most recently has been concentrating on composing and producing new works. His recent works have been included in documentaries on President Obama - Irish Roots, The Real Descendants and also stories of the Lost Souls of the Titanic. Murty has also worked as Stage Manager on theatre productions of Les Miserables, Moll, Juno and the Paycock, Kings of Kilburn to mention just a few. Murty has received acknowledgement from Irish President Michael D. Higgins for his work with charities both here and in America with his song "The Kissing Gate," helping to raise funds for Project Children in Pennsylvania. With the help of international singer-songwriter Dean Friedman and Kilkenny's Jesters stage Academy continues to raise funds for Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin Ireland. John started playing the harmonica at age eight and by age eleven was in his first band as the drummer. John cites Levon Helm as his biggest influence. John eventually progressed to mandolin, thus starting his long love affair with stringed instruments. John's extensive collection includes instruments as diverse as Apalacian Dulcimer, 5 String Banjo, Dobro, Auto-Harp to name but a few. John has played on, produced and engineered over 100 albums to date as well as touring extensively with the legendary Miami Showband and Horslips guitarist Johnny Fean.
