简介
Gishiki is the soundtrack to a Japanese Sci-Fi movie that has yet to be made. A perfect mixture of augmented koto & harp, vintage synthesizer, and windchime sound design for grey rainy days. For those that like physical albums, Gishiki comes in CD form along with Wound Up and Contrapasso in unique packaging ~ wrapped using the ancient Furoshiki method in Shiburi-dyed fabric. Visit my symbionproject/bandcamp page for details on this unique, limited-edition package! To push myself into a new compositional mindset, I approached this album with some new elements... First is that the songs each began their compositional arc using one of the three variations on the Japanese Hirajoshi 平調子 pentatonic scales/tunings. As the compositions evolved, I then introduced more standard western modes to create a unique tonal palette that worked well with the synthesizers. Lastly, I recorded/sampled my collection of pentatonic windchimes and bamboo instruments, like the Malaysian angklung, to add a unique sonic element to the mixes. All the songs blend seamlessly into the next creating a listening experience ranging from tranquil ambience & delicately melodic to climactic surging synthesizers.
