简介
Vredehoek Blue is an album of piano music featuring improvisations on, and interpretations of, original material composed by Cape Town musician Marc Roffey. The pianist is fellow Capetonian and musical collaborator Nicholas Williams. At heart Nicholas has an economical, thoughtful and sensitive style of playing, yet he contributes, with equal facility, evocative, lyrical musicianship and explosive, dynamic playing to the material. The album takes the listener on a musical journey, marked by differing moods and tempos, and it includes numerous musical influences, including jazz, blues, classical, and local folk traditions. The album title derives from the Cape Town, South Africa suburb of Vredehoek, which lies on the slopes of Table Mountain. Recorded 2015 and 2016 at Milestone Studios, Cape Town. Engineered by Murray Anderson. Assistant engineer: Jethro Harris. All material copyright © Marc Roffey 2017. Cover photograph by Martyn Taylor; cover design by Marissa van Minnen.
