简介
American Men is the fuzzy, buzzy, big and bouncy debut from husband-husband duo Soft People. Steeped in the dark comedy of the Trump era, American Men delivers a fresh and frantic sound, fraught with existential angst and dusted with touches of humor that pull the nose out of a complete dive at just the right moments. Lyrical couplets like "A piston pumping into nothingness/ Orangatan erecting obelisks" lighten the dark thematic landscape, while some tracks, such as the tongue-in-cheek "New Kampf" (an odd hybrid of Bowie meets the Shins meets Tim Heideckker) are jokes from start to finish. American Men is a queer, punk, pop, bedroom experiment gone horribly right. Caleb and John met when John became the drummer of Caleb's Oakland-based indie band, Grand Lake. The two started dating shortly after John joined the group in 2009 and were married shortly after it became legal in 2014. They live together with their dog and cat in San Luis Obispo, CA. Written, performed and recorded by Soft People in Atlanta, GA, January-August 2017 Mixed by Ian Pellici in Oakland, CA Mastered by Steve Jenkins at Crystal Labs in San Luis Obispo, CA
