'Serious, hip, cerebral, yet cool', is what the Mail And Gaurdian calls Mark Fransman and his music. In this regard, not much has changed for this, his third release as a solo-artist. With 'Sonik Citizen', the multi-award wining artist has fully embraced the role as an orator of life through music. The album title aptly describes him and his music in this roll. Mark has re-ignited his life-long love affair with singing with this release. The album marks his first full vocal excursion to date and by it's strength, not his last. It also marks the first guitar driven album (which is the only featured instrument except for bass and drums). Each song on the album is performed with an intimacy and presence that puts the listener in the room with a him, as if in conversation. This is directly inspired by the life-ward nature of the songs itself. Each song is inspired by Mark's personal experiences and interactions as a father, a husband, an african, a traveller, a musician, a human being... Stylistically, the sounds of modern rock, the blues, and soul-rock are all beautifully employed to create the soundscape of the album. All these are brought together with the unmistakable sound of Africa, ever present in his music.
