Todd Hertstein, Jon Beld and Rob Costley are veterans in the Grand Rapids punk scene, and have been friends for 25 years. Growing up in the same town, playing in different bands, sometimes together, the three decided to start a band in February of 2013. Rob and Jon had recently played together in Ten Second March, and Jon and Todd had also recently played together in the Krabs. They wanted the band and the music to be about their town, and the working class struggle they have all lived. The name Auslander means "outsider" in German, and seemed like a perfect description of these three friends and the music they were making. From songs about their state, their town and work to songs about simply hanging out and drinking with friends, Auslander is a straight forward punk band with catchy music and songs you can't help but sing along with. The combined experience of these three in the music scene over the past 25 years has given them an in your face attitude, and too many influences to list. Their honesty might offend you sometimes, but Auslander makes no apologies.
