Composer, Sy Brandon, professor emeritus of music from Millersville University, Millersville, PA, has received numerous commissions and honors including 1st place in WITF-FM\'s 25th Anniversary Composition Contest, the El Dorado Sacred Music Composition Contest, Franklin and Marshall College’s Wind Ensemble Composition Contest, and the New England String Ensemble Composition Contest. His music has been recorded by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Bulgarica, the Kiev Philharmonic and has been performed both throughout the United States and abroad including performances by the United States Army, Navy, and Air Force Bands and on NPR’s Performance Today. Soprano Mary Elizabeth Southworth has degrees from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She has appeared with the Cincinnati Symphony, the Dayton Philharmonic, the Kentucky Symphony, and the Nevada Opera. Flutist Danielle Hundley has degrees from Ohio State and the Longy School of Music in Boston. She has a private studio of advancing flute students and runs a chamber music outreach program. Clarinetist Marianne Breneman has degrees from Michigan State University, Wayne State University and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She plays with the Kentucky Symphony and teaches at the College of Mount St. Joseph. Pianist Philip Amalong is an active teacher and performer. He is chair of the music department at the College of Mount St. Joseph and was recently awarded an Aaron Copland Foundation grant for a new recording project. The judges of the 2007 Chamber Music Competition awarded first prize to Katherine Young, Naomi Gray, and Marguerite Lynn Williams for their recording of “Meditation and Dance”. Katherine Young was appointed principal oboe of the Florida Orchestra in March 2007. She previously completed a fellowship with the New World Symphony. Young has served as a guest principal oboe in the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and the San Diego Symphony. Cellist Naomi Gray is currently a member of the New World Symphony. Recent concert appearances have included a chamber music series in Umbria, Italy and performances with orchestras in Austria and Japan. She has also been a featured soloist with the National Repertory Orchestra. Harpist Marguerite Lynn Williams has concertized throughout the United States, Europe and Asia with ensembles such as the Chicago Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, Kirov Orchestra, Toronto Symphony and San Diego Symphony. She is currently principal harpist for the New World Symphony, Colorado Music Festival, International Chamber Artists and on faculty at the Frost School of Music, University of Miami. Second prize was awarded to Abigail Kegel Walsh and Jared Elder for their recording of “Three Preludes”. Walsh is currently on the flute faculty of the Hartt School as an adjunct instructor, as well as the Vernon Music and Arts Center. Elder is currently in his fourth and final year of a dual degree program at the University of Hartford, a B.M. in classical guitar performance at The Hartt School, and a B.A. in psychology. Honorable Mention was awarded to Jill Marchione and Kimberly Buchar Kelley for their recording of “Sonatina”. Ms. Marchione performs regularly with the Harrisburg Symphony and Opera, Theatre Harrisburg, and the Allegro Chamber Orchestra of Lancaster. Ms. Kelley has performed in various orchestras including the Illinois Symphony, New World Symphony, Palm Beach Opera, Sinfonia da Camera, BACH Ensemble, Lancaster Symphony, and the York Symphony. Both teach at Dickinson College.
