Born in Germany and raised around the world, Amana melome’ Is a Euro-Caribbean-American singer-songwriter. Her music reflects her jazz heritage, intertwined with soulful vocals and inspiring lyrics. Both grandparents were heavy in the international jazz scene; her grandfather, the late, great bass player Jimmy Woode played in Duke Ellington’s band, as well as accompanying jazz greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Carmen McRae, Lionel Hampton and Sarah Vaughn to name a few. Amana’s late grandmother was also a professional jazz singer. Her father, hailing from the Caribbean island of Aruba is a musician performing on the European scene today, as is her aunt: jazz singer Shawnn Monteiro. Amana moved back to America to go to college and made the village in New York her home for some years as she earned her BA degree at NYU. She then moved to Los Angeles to pursue her singing career where she met producer Saverio “Sage” Princpini with whom she recorded both her debut album “indigo red” and her sophomoric album “phoenix rising”. Numerous renowned musicians appear on all of Amana’s albums, from Vinnie Colajuta, Reggie Hamilton and Alessandro Alessandroni to Todd Simon and Strings Massive on the latest. After a U.S. release with indie label Savana Records and a distribution deal through Whole Foods Markets (Amana’s was the very first album they sold in stores), Indigo Red was released in Europe on Irma Records. While touring promoting the CD in Italy, Amana landed a lead acting roll playing herself on the most popular sitcom on Italian national television: Un Medico In Famiglia. Most recently Amana has finished recording her third album “Lock and Key” (her third album) in Los Angeles, this time with new collaborations, and production by the talented duo: Itai Shapira and Adam Berg, who have worked with the likes of Aloe Black, Alice Russel, Kelis and many more. Lock and Key is due for release in October 2014 and is already generating a great buzz. Amana currently headlines festivals and events across the globe. She has performed at private events for Fendi, Christian Dior, Robert Mondavi with Frescobaldi, United Artists for Peace and P.E.T.A. to name a few. While maintaining her organic elegance, Amana takes us on a unique journey with her beautifully conscious lyrics painted with jazzy, heart-felt vocals – in a category of her own: Nu-jazz meets nu-soul.
