简介
For his debut release Indro teamed up with producer/musicians Hilly Michaels and Greg Shafritz to put together a sound which immediately strikes the listener as being unique yet somehow familiar. Perhaps this can be attributed to the juxtaposition of Indian instruments and musical ideas with a rock/pop lyrical style that invites the listener into a world of possibilities. Circus Smiles includes appearances by such New York greats as keyboard player Tommy Mandel (Brian Adams, Tina Turner, Dire Straits), bassist Kenny Aaronson (Bob Dylan, Joan Jett, Billy Idol), and Pandit Ramesh Mishra on sarangi. On the engineering end, Indro had the opportunity to have star mixer Michael Barbiero (Guns’n’Roses, Madonna, Maroon 5) and mastering engineer Greg Calbi (John Lennon, Lenny Kravitz, Norah Jones) put their master strokes on the sonic character of the album. Indro, the New York-based singer/songwriter/sitarist/producer, got his musical start early, beginning with the piano at the age of four. Growing up on the East Coast of the US and Eastern India, Indro was immersed in two very different musical styles all his life. While studying the piano, Indro became increasingly attracted to the Indian Classical instrument, the sitar, and internalized the Indian musical idiom which can be heard clearly in his productions. Before long, Indro began crafting lyrics and songs, laying them down to tape in make-shift studios in vacant college dorm commons or kitchens. After graduating from Duke University, Indro became a part of the New York and Kolkata music scenes, playing in various musical groups, polishing his own creations and performing solo sitar concerts. Having toured the US, the Caribbean and India as an accompanist for legendary acts such as Ustad Ghulam Ali Khan and Anup Jalota, Indro now unveils his unique brand of pop/rock for the next generation.
