This Cd is a powerful blend of the Indigenous people's story, our joy and pain, our laughter and heartache. This is Cheryl Bear's second album. The Good Road CD is very unique. It is different from the first one in that it is filled with stories. Stories that all Native American people can relate to and enjoy. Some are fun stories because our people have a sharp sense of humour (sharp in that it sometimes is painfully funny) and we love to laugh. Some of my favourite memories of being with my family in Nadleh is the laughter. There are also true stories that are very difficult to tell. The first one is Cheslatta written about my Grandpa Alec George's original village which is covered by the Kenny Dam. The next one is the Residential School/Indian Boarding School Song which tells the story of the first mother and son who were every separated by these schools created to assimilate our Native people. Both of these songs took over two years to write because they are our stories, these things really happened and we're not sure there can ever be any tangible resolution of these unjust events. For me, this truth remains: we must tell our story. This CD, The Good Road, is dedicated to my people, Nadleh Whut'en First Nation in northern British Columbia, Canada.
