The title "The Family Reject" is a brazen acknowledgement of her position as an adoptee- not a full member of her adopted family, and a virtual stranger to her biological family. According to Kelly, "many adoptees are shaped by their experiences with rejection and trauma," and she considers herself to be no different. " I have spent a lifetime grieving for parents that ultimately didn't want me," she comments. Julian has spent a tremendous amount of time touring the United States and countries abroad. She has been featured in the national tour of the musical " Songs from the Soul" directed by Kamau Means, " Dreamgirls" at La Comedia Dinner Theater and many others. According to Julian," 'The Family Reject' isn't really meant to be an overly produced kind of deal. Instead, it is about me stripping down, bearing my soul and really feeling my way through some really powerful content. This music is for anyone who has ever felt lost and without a home. I think pretty much everyone can identify with that on some level".
