简介

Perry Redd wrote the "Strange Revolution" album/CD as a response to the social movements that spread globally and across America aimed at remediating the wealth disparities that plague poor and working class people. The lead track, "Occupy" was dedicated to the serious and committed people who made up the September 17, 2011 Occupy Wall Street event and the subsequent Occupy movement nationwide. After visiting the OccupyDC encampments (both at McPherson Square and at Freedom Plaza) in his hometown of Washington, DC, Redd penned the track while riding on the Metro train. The title track, "Strange Revolution" was written as an frank observation of the 2011 socio-political uprisings in Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and other Arab nations of Africa...and the role of the United States in those respective uprisings. Redd is uncategorically convinced that race played a significant and detrimental role in the promoters of the so-called "Arab Spring." "The Bottom Line" was written by Redd in 2008 while he served time in a federal prison. Redd, as a teacher/instructor of Political Science, made insistent upon his students to remember that "The bottom line to all things American is...economics." To this day, his former students complete the phrase with "economics." Redd wrote "B-Movie Life" as a motivator for those who are disappointed at failure to attain the American Dream; the reality that, like a Hollywood B-list movie, you can still run the race--and be pleased with the results. The track "I Am Troy Davis" was written on the night of the execution of Georgia inmate, Troy Davis. Redd wrote "I lived to witness yet another amazing event...in America. I saw people--of all races, religions and classes--band together to give one more minute of life to a man condemned to death. While Redd completed the melody line, Davis was executed on September 21, 2011. He was scheduled to die at 7pm...the time of death was 11:08 p.m. ET.... Among the most controversial track on the CD; opposing America's role in the bombing of Libya to oust Col. Muammar Qaddafi from power; a conversation with a fellow songwriter in support of America's bombing led Perry Redd's activist spirit to educate the masses of Americans who aren't apprised of the full story through"Bombs Over Tripoli"...the voice of Martin Luther King's speech against America's military intervention in Vietnam is relevant today. Like King in 1967, Redd received many oppositional comments regarding the track, but many more supported the premise of the song. A tribute to Redd's ancestral homeland, "Motherland" inspires one to think on his/her own existence. Back-up vocals by social change activist Barbara Patterson, the song soothes the senses and lulls one into a state of meditation...
