Hailing from the North Dallas area, Ryan Allen originally studied piano and eventually fell under the spell of The Smithsonian Folkways as well as Woody Guthrie which drew him to the guitar and shaped him into a songwriter. Years later, in an effort to feed his creative hunger, Ryan pulled together his most talented friends and although the band started out as something to do 'just for fun', it quickly was realized they were dealing with something of a different nature entirely. The band started to practice in an old warehouse in Downtown Tulsa where their sound and voice was strengthened and finally formed. Native Tulsans Jake Dodson (bass, viola, mandolin) and Jon Martell (viola, stroh violin), are longtime friends and both studied classical music together. Jake and Jon were students at The University of Tulsa when they first joined Bandelier. Andy King (guitars, steel, banjo) comes from Fort Smith Arkansas and was raised in a musical family among the Ozarks. Joel Wood (drums, percussion) was born in Buffalo New York and came to Tulsa to study sacred music. While there, he found himself playing in multiple groups including jazz combos and big bands. All of the members, with their various musical backgrounds have found themselves using their unique voices to shape and form Bandelier. Throughout the years the band has welcomed various musicians including Josiah Colle on fiddle. After four years, Bandelier independently released their debut record entitled "Landlines" in the Fall of 2014. The album features other friends and artists including Jesse Aycock (Hard Working Americans) on pedalsteel guitar, Chris Combs (Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey) on electric and lapsteel guitar, Eric Noble on trumpet and songwriter Erin O'Dowd lends her vocals as well. Be sure to listen closely, catch the band live, and follow their trail at bandeliermusic.com "At a show you will experience the guys sing, scream, and whisper their hearts out. Ryan has no reservations to open his heart-on-his sleeve with lyrics of timeless folkloric themes of love, death, and home. There is something very familiar about the band, and I believe that familiarity is straight up Americana, whatever that may be." TrishaT. “The band is both cinematic and precise, gathering an orchestrated western film score into a three minute catchy folk-pop-rock song that will move your heart and feet at the same time." Green-Country Tuner "Bandelier is an American band. Their sound perhaps can be described as Midwestern. Just like they are on the map, their sound lies in between the Appalachian folk traditions, Southern country and the Southwestern Spaghetti Western soundtracks. They are truly a band from The Heartland." OKUnderground - New Americana
