简介
Life is a song and I long for its melody; a combination of pitch and rhythm on a human scale, helping me to make sense of my individual purpose. My song has been accented by sharps and flats, intermixed with ranges of sound, silence, and divinely timed events. As many have, I started in the church choir, but I became an artist when I was given a poetry assignment at age 12. By the age of 14, I was a vocal music major in high school and learning how to incorporate my gifts of music with having a clever way of using words. At a young age, music and poetry became my way of uncensored expression, as well as the vehicle which began to help me make sense of the world’s complicated matters. My goal is to be unguarded and honest in my music, while opening minds and elevating a global take on how beautiful the song of life can be, even when the pitch and rhythm may seem a bit off. This is the viewpoint I speak from. Drawing influences from artists ranging from the Kings of Pop and Rock, Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley, to the likes of Hip-Hop legends Tupac Shakur and Kanye West, while mixing in the classic sounds of The Beatles and Eagles, my music is of an untold genre. The best classification is a melodic compilation constructed of Spoken Word, Alternative Hip-Hop, House, Pop, and R&B/Soul. Put it all together and it’s my life in lyrics. I come from a family of service and helping others. Naturally, I use the strength and humility that derives from that upbringing as a platform to build everything that I invest time and attention into. Always being willing to lend a helping hand or an ear for advice, I have often been in a place where wonderful doors of opportunity have opened, such as: being in the studio for a live recording with the legendary David Hollister of Blackstreet, meeting and forming a relationship with native Chicago actor Harry Lennix, traveling to Canadian Mennonite University to host music mentoring workshops and perform, being a Hip-Hop/Poetry Instructor and Classroom Facilitator in Chicago Public Schools, acting in an Independent Film, and writing music for the soundtrack of another. These open doors have created connections and experiences which have filled the stanzas of my song. As life plays on, I am convinced that the beat to which I march is one that is strong enough to lead millions to walk in the way of their own destiny, because the Drummer behind my song is much bigger and far greater than I am. With Him, I can do all things. I spent seven years as a Mission Team Leader and emcee for the House Covenant Church, Chicago’s first youth and young adult Hip-Hop worship experience. Now, in my greatest attempt yet to discover my own melodic compliment to follow the beat I’ve been given, I have completed production on my first official industry standard music video. It displays a vivid image of my soulful song “Get on Board,” inspired by the 1965 single “People Get Ready” (The Impressions). I have experienced the sensation of my music being played on local radio and in night club rotation, along with being able to travel to both Coasts and throughout the Midwest to perform. A victorious feeling arose after taking the first place prize in Chicago’s 2011 LAC Entertainment Promote Peace Talent Showcase, where I was recognized for my original music performance. My life’s song has also witnessed the disappointment of loss and let down, resulting from poor performance or lack of resources and information. All of this has fueled my desire to triumph beyond all odds and not become comfortable with, nor confused by, the true meaning of success. I am blessed with a dedicated team of genuine people who see, believe, and support my creative vision. As a result I am overwhelmingly grateful and am encouraged to continue to pursuing my passion for music. My music is a representation of the song of life. For, life has been my greatest teacher. Every lyric, melody, and underlying beat is reflective of my life’s composition. Thank you for making time for my song to sing to you.
