简介
"Over the past few years, Mr. Soch has been hard at work behind the scenes as a music producer and film sound designer, playing master puppet for a multitude of collaborative projects. The release of OTHERWISE February 2014, signifies an exciting new phase for the music made by Mr. Soch. With a background in film scoring paired with years of hip-hop and pop production, Mr. Soch began the writing process in exploring the outer limits of sonic texture in instrumental music. This long awaited work commences like any great work of art, by immersing you within a world of wonder and awe. His first track, "LESTRO" starts by lifting the listener through an unveiling of beautiful electronic flutters and tones while contrasting with live samples of nature, animals, and people. Combined with the real recordings of drums, this piece sets an atmosphere of experimental excellence which is maintained throughout the whole album. As the sonic spaces continue to blossom and transport you, the listener is taken through unknown jungles, back alleyways, angelic landscapes and tribal villages. As one listens closely you begin to discover the various recurring themes and motives hidden throughout the album both melodically and instrumentally. Whether it be Soch’s use of infectious guitar licks and dirty bass tones, or his ability to merge world percussion and rhythms flawlessly in his beats, OTHERWISE takes you on a journey to places where the modern meets the primitive. His syncopated pulses really give the songs a mantra kind of movement in the ebb and flow of repetition. The continuity of the tracks as a whole should also be highlighted, as the album feels much like the soundtrack of a wondrous adventure film. The interplay of themes connects the storyline together and helps the explorer (the listener) navigate their voyage through each sonic space. It is obvious when listening to the album that there are many musical genres shinning through as influences, which is delightful to discover. Overall OTHERWISE exhibits a harmonious balance of killer catchy funk grooves and beautiful thought provoking ballads. It’s use of tone and texture creates a sense of suspense and mystery, which leaves the listener reflective and in gratitude for the wonder of what might otherwise be overlooked. I highly recommend giving OTHERWISE a listen, as it will awaken you to the sounds of the modern primal." Joshua Doerksen
