P.H.D. started when three mad rock scientists--Dr. P (John Puryear) on guitars, Dr. H (Thom Harman) on bass and vocals, and Dr. D (Andy Dumiak) on drums--decided to get together and jam. The only rule was no stress, all fun. For us, that usually meant rocking out. Before long, we had a stack of demos and wanted to play a show. When we decided to play our first gig, with our friends Hot Lava Monster, we brought in Wes Pellerin from Hot Lava on bass for half or so of it, which was slammin'. In the studio, Mike Schaming (also from HLM, and Timshel, etc.) gave us two great guitar solos: the scorcher on Love Is A Comet and a more subdued one on Come On In.
