简介
After slipping off her shoes as the charismatic front woman for Fur Patrol, Julia Deans left her Melbourne home of ten years and returned to NZ to step effortlessly into the role of solo artist – delivering some of her most exquisite songs yet in the beautiful debut album Modern Fables. Released in 2010 to critical acclaim, Modern Fables earned her a swag of nominations for several coveted musical accolades including the Taite Music Prize, the APRA Silver Scroll (for "A New Dialogue") and Best Female Solo Artist and Best Pop Album at the NZ Music Awards. The album was recorded over a few months with close friends & peers in various studios and homes across Melbourne, Berlin, & her childhood hometown Christchurch. From the elegant torchsong opener "Little Survivor" through to the wide-horizon country twang of "High and Clear" and the ethereal artpop excursions of Skin, this collection of songs showcases a consummate talent capable of musical storytelling that moves and inspires. While many artists blessed with such a fine voice would be content to rely solely on this ability alone, it’s her combination of sharp lyrics and a conscious pop sound in conjunction with her superior vocal talent which sets Julia Deans apart. released September 12, 2010 all songs written by julia deans recorded & produced by david wernham and julia deans recorded at andere baustelle, berlin; the sitting room, christchurch; studios in the city & a.p., melbourne. horns on little survivor recorded by ian macalister at the james hay theatre, christchurch. mixed at studios in the city. mastered by chris gehringer at sterling sound, new york. artwork & design by anna lea kelly photo by stephen tilley this album is dedicated to my grandparents - elizabeth & austen; sheila & jack.
