Though this song was written 7 years ago in 2008, one would think it was written today in 2015. Again SaNa has used her inborn talents to give the listener something to contemplate. She really believes it is possible for diverse populations to work together to resolve a lot of today's issues. It doesn't matter the gender, the geography, the religion, sexual preference, race, or anything else that makes us different. We must evolve or die. The song, We the People, represents SaNa’s attempt to express her desire that “We all can get along”. And, by doing so, we can all be happy. When she introduced the project to the SaNa Sounds staff, they jumped on it without hesitation. Mix/Master, Big Shady selected his favorite Beat Master, Tony Williams to lay down the tracks. The next task was to find a lead singer who could deliver a believable message. All eyes pointed to Victoria Fuqua. Her style and presentation adds strength to the lyrics. SaNa’s son, Kenyatta Ali Tate, wrote the rap lyrics within half an hour. It was as though he knew how to reach out to those who speak the language and encourage them to heed the message. SaNa knew she wanted the hook to be sung in different languages because “We the people must evolve or die!” She called on musician friends, Victoria Fuqua – English, Claudia Swartz – German, N Abdul – Arabic, Rachael Wilson – Japanese, Felicita Romero - Spanish/Portuguese, and Diamond Dominy – French/Spanish. They came into the studio without ever hearing the song. They were able to interpret the lyrics in a way that blended right into the tracks mixed by Tony Williams. Finally, SaNa called on her cousin, Derrick Showes, to introduce the song and commit himself to helping us all get along when he grows up. We must embrace our youth and expose them to a more inclusive paradigm for resolving world problems. SaNa said the words; “We the people throughout the land gotta work together hand-in-hand. Let me give to you the reason why; we the people must evolve or die!” flowed through her mind as she watched the 2008 American political debates. It saddened her as the political sides fought each other in the name of their constituents. The name calling and out pouring of racism, sexism and classism brought tears to her heart. No matter the political party, or other characteristic that makes us different, elected officials must set the standards and work together to help us use these characteristics to make America great. If we don’t evolve, we will die! What a nice song to sing-a-long and dance to. One with uplifting lyrics and a keen slamming beat. This song has a hook that will transcend all time and situation.
