Dr. Ben Meisel is a pediatrician and award-winning children's musician who has been using his music to support child life service providers and organizations in the hopes of improving lives of children with special health needs. Dr. Ben is best known for his work with the SeriousFun Children's Network of camps. In 2015 Dr. Ben partnered with Child Life Specialist, Leslie Marnett, to write the Punch Pillow song teaching people how to therapeutically use The Punch Pillow (which Leslie developed for use by her patients in challenging medical settings). Children requiring medical treatment in hospital settings are not in control of the many frightening, uncomfortable procedures and treatments they must endure. The Punch Pillow and its song are one way to help put kids back in the drivers seat of their fears, worries, and frustrations. Each of us, whether we have medical challenges or not, will face challenging circumstances that will bring confusion, frustration, and fear. Having permission to express "unpopular" feelings opens the door to discussion; thus helping us better understand the causes of our feelings and begin working to develop effective, lasting coping abilities. In other words, we punch The Punch Pillow so that we don't emotionally or physically "punch" the people (including ourselves) who we most need in our lives.
