II S.O.S. (The Product of Substance over Swag) is an honest and cohesive hip hop effort of lyrical wizardry and cinematic production that does more to compliment than to detract from the intended message. With the current state of music as it is (on a level of mega pop proportions), the availability of hip-hop projects that emphasize the content rather than the character behind it are few and far in between. Whatever hip-hop is lacking, O.B., S.C.G. and Jochi Joch deliver it to your doorstep. II S.O.S. is thoughtful enough to allow the listener to make their own verdict of this shining opus. Notable high points of the project occur on tracks like "Mind, Body, Spirit", which is an ode to the sanctity of the healthy balance of the individual. "Backwards" examines the oxymoronic tendencies of social construtcions and institutions, proving that one plus one can sometimes equal zero. The edgy, yet sincere "Watch Your Back" is a promise to achieve personal success in hip-hop-- and if not, "you better watch your back!" If you like hit-it-and-quit-it anthems, you're guaranteed to enjoy "Keeper". "Rock Steady" is the most emotionally vulnerable point on the album. O.B., S.C.G. and Jochi weave poignant tales and soliloquies of some of their life's greatest challenges, connecting with the listener in a way that is identifiable and heartfelt across the spectrum of fans and other listeners alike. The bonus tracks are an ecclectic blend of high energy and technically sound lyricism, fresh concepts and cinematic production. M.O.B.Star kin, SaFE, makes a few appearances. These include the flow frenzy "Diamendz" and the popularly uplifting "Beautiful Ladies". This easily tramples over any projects trying to be hip hop in 2010. II S.O.S. is musical proof that substance trumps swag.
