简介

by Previous Dorothy Carter's second album stands alone as a highly original work that is by far an alienating and tripped-out experience. Carter provides more psychedelic sounds and textures richly inspired by the use of her medieval instrument and compositions. Wailee Wailee comes out as truly unique. With such a feat she provides a masterful performance on the hammered dulcimer, psaltery, flute and piano. Though the addition performance by backup players also should be praised for their skill too as well their integration of psychedelic tunes. The Squirrel Is A Funny Thing... begins with the similar sounds that existed on her previous album, but her lyrical and mantra-like vocals, the speed though not the fastest definitely produces an atmospheric feel of celtic medieval music. Dulcimer Medley - Robin M'aime is much more festive and has the same atmosphere as The Squirrel Is A Funny Thing..., the use of the psaltery is scintillating to hear and a standout performance on the song, with the help of the tuneful flute is worth mentioning as well. Along The River provides a melancholic sound, so much so that it has a visual feel to the sound. The use of the flute in the song is a haunting and tragic while the shimmering sounds of the harp is beautiful to hear. Summer Rhapsody is one of the more defining most moments on album. The introduction is quaint and cheerful, only to delve deep into a more psychedelic and almost avant-garde sounds of what is possibly a cello. The sound becomes abstract in nature, and produces an sound similar to electronic drone, this is then added with the amazing performance by Dorothy Carter on the dulcimer, her rapid speed on such an instrument is downright phenomenal. The title track though has an almost adult contemporary sound to it, obviously more pop than psychedelic but Carter uses beautiful aesthetic sounds and textures that make the song much more emotional. This with the calming sound of her voice singing, it truly is a marvel to hear. Celtic Medley is a much slower as Carter goes back to a more traditional Celtic folk sound, but her composition is still simply brilliant and emotional. Autumn Song is another fast paced work, though it integrates a more Middle Eastern feel to the atmosphere, this separates this from the rest, as the use of the Slit Drum helps with such atmosphere. Tree of Life is her most tripped-out song, beginning with the bellow screeches of the cello. The sound of the tambura is slow paced with it and is slowly comes in the harps melodically. Then the vibrant and out-of-this-world sound of Carter comes hum in singing. The work integrates all instrument together making it one experience worth remembering. Such a song is so original that it's as well an emotional work. Wailee Wailee achieves a quality of music that it is breathtaking and definitely worth listening to.
