Started in the Summer of 1996, the Pettyfords were originally a 3-piece consisting of high school friends who were bored, hyper, and looking for some avenue to express their love for punk rock music. Roy Murakami, Cavan Nohara, and Jeremy Rhode started the band at the tender ages of 15 mostly playing Screeching Weasel, Scared of Chaka, and Invalids covers before writing original music. In 1998, Derek Watkins joined the band as a second guitarist/vocalist. This lineup stuck together until 2001 when the group decided to focus on other ventures. In the 5-year span, the Pettyfords released a full-length album, an ep, a split-ep, and were featured on many compilations. In January 2010, the boys decided to get the band back together for the same reasons they got together in high school...for the love of the music. Now, with new drummer Steve Bruno (Buckshot Shorty, Temporary Lovers) taking over for Roy and the refining of their style from the previously adolescent pop-punk to a more mature, austere, but still fun sound fueled by influences such as The Lawrence Arms, Alkaline Trio, Banner Pilot, and MxPx, the Pettyfords are excited about the release of their new EP "Domesticated" and the possibilities of what's to come.
