简介
Electric Bassist, Matt Skellenger, has always been an exception to the rules. By combining forward thinking creativity, progressive techniques, and natural musicality, Skellenger displays a uniquely identifiable sound. Born and raised in Denver, CO., Matt has been composing, performing, and recording in the front range for over fifteen years. In 2002, he earned a B. A. in Music from Metropolitan State College of Denver; where he studied with first place winner at The 2006 International Jazz Composers Symposium, Fred Hess, in addition to world renowned trumpeter, Ron Miles. His fierce dedication to the electric bass led him to attend Steve Bailey and Victor Wooten's Bass At the Beach Workshop in 2004, as well as four of Victor Wooten's Bass Nature Camps from 2004-2008; where he had first hand experience studying with some of the most influential musicians to ever play the instrument. Victor Wooten, Steve Bailey, and Chuck Rainey are all fulltime instructors at the camps. At the 2005 BNC, Matt was awarded one of two scholarships to attend The Bass Collective in NYC for a week long intensive course. The versatility of Matt's playing can be heard on music ranging from solo bass, jazz sextet, modern rock power trio to folk, americana, funk and pop groups. In 2003, Matt released his first solo bass album entitled On My Way Home. He is currently a member of the critically acclaimed Ron Miles' Blossom Band, Katalyst, The Lovely and Talented, and he leads his own quartet. On January 13th, 2009, Matt Skellenger released his debut cd on Synergy Music featuring Ron Miles on Cornet, Dave Miller on Drumset, Tabla, Udu, and Electronics, with Andy Skellenger on Cajon, Tabla, and Udu. Fusing elements of jazz and world music, this unique quartet creates a rhythmically rich and beautifully melodic sound.
