简介

Christmas Hymns, Carols of the Christ Child, is a holiday recording by Mark Geslison and Geoff Groberg. Mark and Geoff produced this recording using handmade acoustic instruments such as Mark's vintage 1921 Gibson F4 mandolin, his 1984 Steve Carlsen Flatiron A5 mandolin, his 1978 Martin HD28 steel string guitar, his 1955 Swedish-made Bjarnton nylon string guitar; and Geoff's self-made banjo, low "D" whistle, and modified arch top guitar. Mark and Geoff also used other folk instruments such the mountain dulcimer, octave mandolin, and acoustic bass. Primary musician: Mark Geslison (nylon-string guitar, steel-string guitar, mandolin, octave mandolin, 6-string banjo, bass, and dulcimer). Geoff Groberg (piano, bass, nylon-string guitar, steel-string guitar, 5-string banjo, bass, and low "D" whistle) Numerous additional musicians contributed to the recording as well. They are: Nate Olson (fiddle) Jonathon Wood (mandolin) Cherie Call (voice) Deborah Grimshaw (voice, fiddle) Cecilie Nørrung (voice) Amelia Hohl (voice) Carly Stitt (cello) Lisa Nebeker (cello) Alicia Christensen (flute) Annie Rosevear (flute) Lauren Peterson (flute) Maria Lewis (voice) Diane Probst (voice) Sophie Choate (voice) John Wright (fiddle) The Geslison Groberg sound is one of nostalgia. Christmas Hymns is a nostalgic recording of European Christmas carols known to most of the Christian world as "standards" or "evergreens." Some, however, are not a well-known. Three Danish carols are on the recording. Though they are well-known in Denmark and much of Scandinavia, they are not well-known in the rest of Europe nor in North America. Two of the three Danish carols are performed in Danish with Cecilie Nørrung on voice. There is also one carol performed in French with Deborah Grimshaw on voice. All of the carols on the recording were arranged with a genuineness in mind. Mark and Geoff try to arrange and record music that they want to listen to during the Christmas season. Mark and Geoff hope that this recording will take you back in time to a snowy December evening in one of the many cottages and town squares in villages and cities of nineteenth century Europe.
