简介

Marc Gordon is a neurologist by day, and a caped songwriter in his vanishingly rare spare time. (No cape actually, that was just an embellishment.) This is an eclectic collection of whimsically dark ditties for your listening pleasure. 1) PRECARIOUS: A lighthearted dixielandish romp about the fragility of existence, featuring Rebecca Gordon on vocal. There's also a tuba part. 2) MY AUTOHAGIOGRAPHY: A celebration of adequacy, sung by Rebecca. 3) ANTISOCIAL MEDIA: A lament about the loss of immediacy in a virtual world. 4) ONE-WAY TICKET TO BALTIMORE: This song began as a passing comment about a friend of Rebecca's who had in fact bought a one-way ticket to Baltimore. The phrase seemed to demand broader metaphorical significance, deserving of a song. It is in the sea shanty tradition, with apologies to Edgar Allan Poe and William Shakespeare. It features Jess Taffet on violin and Rebecca on vocal. 5) CHRISTOPHER LLOYD HAIR DAY: A jazzy tune about eponymous adjectives, with Rebecca on vocal. Check out the video on YouTube. 6) EMESIS BASIN STREET BLUES: A hard-boiled noir ballad, with a haunting vocal by Rebecca. Who is the antecedent of you? Therein lies the mystery. 7) DOGS DON'T SAY BOW-WOW: A critique of conventional assumptions, very loosely adapted from a book Rebecca wrote in the 3rd grade, with a stomping 3-part piano riff in the middle. 8) LIVE FOREVER OR DIE IN THE ATTEMPT: A song about the futile quest for immortality, in 2-part vocal harmony by Rebecca. 9) I DIDN'T GET THE MEMO: An R&B extravaganza about being clueless, featuring a soulful vocal by Rochelle Jacobs. 10) HYPERBOLE: A song about excessive expectations and the tyranny of excellence, with Rebecca on vocal. I stole the last line from Voltaire, who stole it from "an Italian sage". 11) WHY DID THE CHICKEN: A quizzical song about rhetorical questions, sung by Rebecca. 12) IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO TANGO: I'm still not exactly sure what this song is about, something to do with letting go of ego. 13) THE BALLAD OF ANTHONY THE MORON: A revisionist version of true crime mob history, in 8 Limerick stanzas, with a sultry vocal by Rebecca. 14) POST-APOCALYPTIC DYSTOPIAN FUTURE REVISITED: A funky eschatological escapade based on innumerable movie trailers. Featuring Rebecca on vocal and, courtesy of Forget Malone, Jesse Capell on guitar and Miles Gordon on bass. 15) NOTHING BUT TIME: A valedictory song about restlessness and leaving.
