简介

Burnin’ down the two-lane blacktop with a cargo of hi-grade songs under its hood, Tennessee Voodoo Coupe is geared-up and heading for a stage near you. The 4-piece team behind the wheel have taken the Coupe for some wild rides down lost highways in search of musical gems. With a new CD as its calling card, TVC will put its voodoo spell on you, with tales from the road, the drag strip, and beyond. Tennessee Voodoo Coupe did not roll off the assembly line fully formed, however; it was pieced together as a rough outfit before being streamlined into the powerful unit it is today. TVC was modelled after its sister speedster, garage punk powerhouse Blue Mercury Coupe. As an alternate vehicle for members of BMC to explore more traditional rockabilly, hillbilly, and swing-flavoured sounds, the prototype was assembled in 2007. With BMC frontman and songwriter Big Rude Jake at the wheel and bassist Steve Good on the doghouse, TVC was given a test-drive, and guitarist Stevie “six string” Abrams and drummer Colonel Gary Edwards complete the road crew. These cats each provided a crucial piece of musical hardware to give TVC its own unique spin. Big Rude Jake is an established singer/songwriter well versed in jazz, swing, jump blues, and more. Steve Good has played guitar in groups including punk rockers The G Spots, and cowpunks Black Train; after plugging in his electric bass for BMC, he picked up the big bass fiddle for TVC. NYC native Stevie “six string” Abrams (formerly in such bands as Jonny Chan and the New Dynasty 6, and Skinner Box NYC) contributes some fine Gretsch and Fender fretwork, and lap steel sounds to TVC’s set. Keeping the pistons pounding, on a standup kit is https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/tennessee-voodoo-coupe/id591569323, a seasoned drummer who has played with ska/rock favourites The Hopping Penguins for 3 decades. While Tennessee Voodoo Coupe know how to burn up the quarter mile in a live setting, it’s what’s under the hood that counts. And that’s the songs, giving this Coupe it’s secret drive. BRJ originals such as “Hot Rod Racer,” “Trans Am” and “Long Black Cadillac” take the listener for a raucous joyride, pausing briefly at “Avenue Blue” to howl at the moon with the chicks and hepcats before moving on. Beyond its own material, which the group has termed “100 proof reckless hillbilly jive,” TVC has a repetoire that covers a lot of unexpected terrain. From the racy swing of Cab Calloway, to the hillbilly songs of Hank Williams and Webb Pierce, to classic Sun Records rockabilly, and some hi-octane punk rock energy, TVC deliver an unpredictable, high-spirited musical road-trip at every occasion. Tennessee Voodoo Coupe hit the pavement with tires squealing in 2010, making some key appearances and releasing its first CD. With dates across Southern Ontario, TVC honed its live show, and shared the bill with artists including the legendary Sleepy Labeef, The Rizdales, and Ronnie Hayward. TVC have hosted the successful East End Rockabilly Riot series in Toronto since 2008. In September, 2010, the group performed at Montreal’s Red Hot and Blue rockabilly weekender, sharing the bill with Argentina’s The Broken Toys, and guitar hero Deke Dickerson. And, after playing a live set on Toronto’s CIUT 89.5FM in March, 2010, the group was happy enough with the recording to release it on CD. Pick up your copy of TVC’s limited-edition 7-song EP, Live In Person, before it’s sold out! Album #2 is on it's way - scheduled for release at Viva Las Vegas 2013!
