简介
2017 has been an absolute cracker of a year for Australian artist Benji Lewis, and now fresh off the back of releasing his two previous singles ‘Drift’ and ‘For You’, comes his Home For Now EP. Ideas for this EP were first discussed back in July 2016, but it was decided that they would be benched until a trip to LA was complete. When Lewis returned back to Australia, he relocated to Brisbane to work alongside producer and good friend Golden Vessel. This meant he was able to be in the right frame of mind, and at his most creatively free. “I was so much more clear on the direction I wanted for the EP and having done a heap of writing sessions in LA with different producers I was so much more ready to do it,” Lewis said. This is a very personal exploration into the man behind and within Benji Lewis. The seven tracks detail his recent experiences, thoughts and feelings, especially given 2016 was a year of big changes. “I packed up my life, put most of it in storage, and based myself in different locations for my music. At times I felt lonely, overwhelmed, I fell in love and also lost loved ones. This EP has stories of some of the biggest moments and feelings of my life in 2016, and just life in general. I think I was able to capture those and turn them into beautiful pieces of music with the help of Max [Golden Vessel] and definitely with the guidance of my manager Jez Ryan,” he said. Listening to the EP will leave you feeling raw and incredibly open. There is a calming synergy between each track, as the beautiful piano work meets the cool vibes of chill electronica. It’s clear Lewis and Golden Vessel work well together to create pure musical magic, especially when the focus always draws back to the meaning of the EP’s title. “The title of the EP came from talking over the changes I was going through; packing my life up and moving from place to place with my friend Mirella. She has always helped and guided me through the years. We talked about moving around a lot and to look at it in a way that no matter where I am, I look at the place I was staying at as home. So wherever I was and continue to move, I would and still do say to myself, “I am home for now, this is home for now” as a way of grounding myself for however long I am in that place,” he said. Leading the EP is closing track ‘In Time’, which explores all those early feelings of falling for someone. It’s a feeling anyone can relate to but this really pulls at the heartstrings. Really tune into the lyrics and have a box of tissues close by because it will open up lost or forgotten feelings. “When I fall for someone, I fall hard. I want all or nothing, but if it doesn’t work out, I know I’ll be okay. I’ll be more than fine with my choices and decisions to go all in and give it a go because for me, it’s part of living. I’d rather whatever comes with that than having the ‘what ifs’ in life. In my experience, it’s not too often you come across people you feel this way about in the modern world, and when we do I feel like you can’t let it pass you by. It could be something really special, no matter how long it lasts or what happens in the end,” he said.
