简介

"Some of us will be able to say we knew Stacey when she was discovering herself as an artist. We got to witness the birth of her dynamic, dramatic, emotional range. Plenty of others are going to discover it now, too." - Rik Emmett (Triumph) Tragedy can spark the greatest of art, and when Stacey Y lost her father at the age of 18, the writing of her newest album began. Stacey's late father, Kost' Yerofeyev, was the lead singer of a patriotic folk/rock band Ruthenia. This band played a part in the Ukrainian Independence movement in the late 1980's. Included in Stacey’s upcoming release is ‘Words of Philosophers’, a song written in tribute to her father. Even before relocating from Kyiv, Ukraine to Toronto at age 11, Stacey had a passion for music. This early transition did not only contribute to her multilingualism, but also her proficiency in the universal languages of Jazz, Classical, Popular, and World Music. Stacey’s music skillfully blends the genres of R&B, Pop, Rock, Modern Jazz, and Neo Soul. Inspired by artists such as Erykah Badu, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, and Etta James, the Stacey Y band sets out to create music that is captivating, and full of surprises. Being immersed in Toronto’s bustling music scene has inspired Stacey to partake in various side projects. These include the involvement of Indian influences, European Folk Traditions, and Reggae Music. Classical piano was Stacey’s first step into the music industry, beginning at age six, and led to her obtaining an Associate in Classical Piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music. By constructing this eclectic array of genres, Stacey has had the opportunity to share the stage with the likes of Jimmy Cliff and Ziggy Marley. The Stacey Y band is currently preparing for the release of their album ‘Set The Water Straight’ on June 20th, 2013. The album was recorded in Humber College Studios, Epik Production Studios, and Heaven Sound. Comprised of Toronto’s finest young musicians Tom Hanley (guitar/vocals), Mark Rynkun (bass), George Nikolov (drums), and Stacey Y (keyboards/vocals), the quartet emphasized on one particular outcome. “Everyone works to perform as a unit as opposed to individual musicians. Our main goal is to form a solid, unified groove.” says Stacey. “Set The Water Straight is about being able to get in touch with yourself and understanding what you're made of. I think that until you can do this, you can't make a difference in the world.” Stacey Y - vocals/piano/synth/rhodes Mark Rynkun - bass/backup vocals/horn arrangements Tom Hanley - guitar/backup vocals George Nikolov - drums Ted Clow - trombone on tracks 2, 8 Sukhbir Channa - trumpet on track 8 Kyle Woodard - tenor saxophone on track 8 Andrew Racknor - baritone saxophone on track 8 Mike Ardagh - tape echo on track 2 Nick Doneff - pedal steel on track 6 Waleed Abdulhamid - percussion on track 4 Jill Harris - backup vocals on tracks 4, 5, 7, 9, 10 Mara Nesrallah - backup vocals on tracks 7, 9, 10 Lydia Persaud - backup vocals on tracks 4, 5 Meagan Lowes - backup vocals on track 9 Andrew Aitchison - backup vocals on track 6 Matt Heron - backup vocals on track 6 Recorded by Nathan Carter Moore at Humber College Studios Track 10 recorded by Stephen Kerr at Epik Productions Overdubs by Thomas Varey at Varey Sound Vocals on tracks 1,4,7,10 recorded and produced by Kibwe Thomas Overdubs on track 4,7 recorded by James Robinson at Wanted Studios Digital Editing by Stacey Y, Thomas Varey and Mark Rynkun Mixed & Mastered by Reuben Ghose at Mojito Mastering Tracks 2, 3, 8, mixed by Tristan Henderson Cover, design, and layout by Dean De St. Croix at De St.Croix Design Photography by Holly Varey, Sukhbir Channa and Calvin Thomas All songs by Stacey Y Produced by Stacey Y, Mark Rynkun and Thomas Varey
