“For heights and depths no words can reach, music is the soul’s own speech.” That’s the simple, yet foreshadowing quote that hung on the wall of the Midwestern farm house of Celeste Baumgartner, my piano teacher, when I was seven years old. How true these words would continue to echo in my heart. Throughout my life, music has always been able to speak when words have failed. I continued to study piano and began to first write music when I was nine years old. When the spoken ended, the expression of melody and song began to resonate, and opened up a place deep in my soul that accurately portrayed every emotion; hurt, triumph, joy, pain, loss and gain. Deeply rooted in my faith, I continued to push forward my ability and talent and further develop my songwriting gift. At age seventeen, I released my first album of all original compositions entitled ‘I Need You’. After selling over a thousand copies of this first independent release I began playing with various local bands, recording numerous albums, and touring the nation. I’ve had the privilege of sharing the stage with such acts as: Disciple, Haste the Day, The Devil Wears Prada, Project 86, Thousand Foot Krutch, Manic Drive, Ashes Remain, Seabird and countless others. For the last three years I’ve had the incredible opportunity to be a member of the multi-platinum selling band ‘Blessid Union of Souls.’ Through extensive touring I’ve been able to play music on every inhabitable continent except Australia. I’ve been amazed at the long lasting relationships and bonds that music has created, all across our beautiful world. I’m touched to know that even in places where a language barrier exists, that songs with a message of love endure and reach far beyond what we could ever imagine. My instrumental and/or vocal abilities have now been featured on over twenty different recording projects, ranging many different styles and genres. During this musical and personal journey I’ve continued to open up my heart and write through all my experiences. I most recently recorded the song ‘Love is Here’ for the local Cincinnati based organization ‘A Voice for the Innocent’, a community of support for victims of rape and sexual abuse. Founder Jamie Sivrais writes “(David) has written a song for us that is not only catchy and melodic, but helps remind us that hope, love, and faith can literally save lives.” I continue forward, and the music and the message go on. My hope is that through my own personal experiences, trials and triumphs, that a feeling of love and hope can always be felt… that the songs of my heart can reach the heights and depths of yours.
