简介
Born in 2006, the San Francisco bay area’s alternative dance group releases groovy, tasty electronica delivered with a unique & exciting sex appeal. Best known so far for their debut single “Hot Sahara” which helped steam up The L Word last summer 2008 in a scene now known by L Word loyals as “the Hot Sahara Scene.” The atypical electronic sound of H.S. climbed to #23 on national Dance Radio soon after with extensive airplay on dance stations including 92.7 Energy SF & Pulse 87 NYC, with additional television features on Ugly Betty, Samantha Who, & The Hills. Before FOJC “happened,” the unmistakable, distinctive core of vocalist/composer Alicia Perrone (Berkeley, CA) and musician/composer Victor James (Alturas, CA) played around the SF bay area clubs in popular modern rock outfit, Simon Stinger, which was discovered by Ric Ocasek during his a&r days at Elektra Records back in 2004. When Elektra folded into Atlantic & Ric Ocasek tired of the corporate B.S., Perrone & James were ready to forge a new path as they started developing a unique electronic sound for Fans of Jimmy Century. They wanted a name that represented their affinity for boy names in particular, something characteristic of Frankie Goes to Hollywood. And once the boy name stuck, they were free to write every song about girls who would fight for position, attention, and eventually maintain their own Twitter accounts. They also made the decision to continue on independently & started releasing their records on their own indie label, Ann-Margrock Music, named after the Flintstones character responsible for Alicia’s favorite twist. 2006 marked their self-released debut EP, and in 2007 the full-length “Twist of the Banshees,” with “The Remixes of Hot Sahara & Blonde Ambition” rounding out the three in 2008. With popular media like Dancemusic.About.com championing them, they received awards and nods for both “Global Domination,” and “Top 10 Dance Record.” After faring well with the dance crowd (even the purists,) their out-of-the-box, alternative dance sounds gained them an invitation to speak on the “Clubland’s Hitmakers” panel at DJ Times-sponsored DJ Expo 2008 in Atlantic City alongside dance acts Lady GaGa & Jes. Influenced by everything from indie mods to old school 70’s soul, their style maintains an edge that is hard to put down and an addiction that is hard to quit. 2009 brings first single “Lola Like This” to be released officially in June/July 2009 as part of a new 4-song EP (including “Hush Madame X,” “Hearts R Mustangs,” and “International”) and marking the additional songwriting collaboration of drummer, Allen Chiu . Of course, a Last.fm leak could happen any day now =). Perrone says “We made the decision to move out of the city and to the beach in the middle of nowhere when our van was stolen in 2008, so we’ve got plenty of space to spread out and make as many mistakes as possible as we self-release these records…
